ABOUT ARLYS

my goal is to practice falling into the shape of my heart, daily......and it is a continual practice, which I'm sure I do better at on some days more than others.....hence the practice....so I offer this class humbly, knowing I bring my own mistakes, trials and perfect flaws along with me...as I continually learn more about how to shine love on all the dark areas of my life, as well.....

conscious movement has been a part of my essence long before I knew there was a formal name for the practice.....but not before I felt the immense impact it had on my well-being....I have loved moving, dancing and singing since birth....and have always felt deeply connected to the diverse rhythms of the earth....

moving and vocalizing with conscious intention has helped me move through many intense transitions in my own life

it would be an honor to extend this experience to others......

My Background….

I started dancing before I could walk...
I started singing before I could speak...

It seems like dancing and singing has been a part of my life since birth.  It felt natural to move, jump, spin and sweat, as if somehow my body could feel its connection with the rotation of the earth.  Somehow, this movement satiated a natural longing of my body to move and sway the contents of this divine being; mimicking the oceans as they buoy vast waves against their continental containers.

Conscious movement has been a part of my life long before finding out there was a formal name for it.  In my hometown of Minneapolis I began crafting 6 to 8-hour long music sets with accelerating rhythmic arcs intended to induce dancing for hours on end, sweating and praying, sweating and joying, sweating and crying, sweating.  After moving to Los Angeles in 2000, I found myself connecting with a large number of people taking part in this type of movement practice together!  I felt as if I knew each of them personally, and connected with each unique path and style of conscious or ecstatic movement that I could find.  Conscious/ecstatic dance has helped me endure the trials of major injuries, and kept my heart afloat and moving even when my body was incapable of doing anything except being still.  After twelve years of participating in this practice with my LA tribes, I have returned to Minneapolis to add my voice to the ever-expanding conscious community, right here in my birthplace.

Main Tribal/Conscious dance connections:

My first barefoot dance connection was probably Patrick Harvard and the Southern California Dance Collective in 1999 or 2000 (I met Patrick prior to moving to LA permanently).  Shortly after, I was introduce to Micheline Berry’s Zen Dance, subsequently singing with Craig Kohland and Shaman’s Dream for a few of Zen Dance classes.  I even had the honor of singing backup for Zen Dance with Donna De Lory on one or two occasions.

The same year, I also connected with Monica [Favand] Campagna and Charlie Campagna of Trip Dance Theater, [tripdance.org], began attending their incredible Sacred Spaces classes and eventually became a vocalist member of the Sacred Space Players and I sang with them for about a decade.

Los Angeles is a fertile conscious movement ground and by mid-2000 I was also introduced to Jo Cobbett’s Fumbling Towards Ecstasy [movinground.com], and Michael & Anneli Molin-Skelton’s spiritweaves ™ [spiritweaves.com].  Jo, Michael and Anneli’s classes are birthed out of the Gabrielle Roth 5Rhythms® & Vinn Marti’s Soul Motion™.  My practice with this tribe continued for twelve years, but the forms will live in my body, always.
